McCann family to appear on Oprah

LONDON — The parents of missing British girl Madeleine McCann are flying to the United States to film an interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Kate and Gerry McCann left London on Wednesday. Madeline disappeared in May 2007 from a resort in southern Portugal.

The McCanns will first visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Alexandria, Virginia. They are then to travel to Chicago to record an interview Friday for the “Oprah Winfrey Show.”

Age-progression images showing Madeleine as she might look now will be aired during the show, which is scheduled to be broadcast in the U.S. on May 4.

Family spokesman Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns agreed to speak with Winfrey because of the global reach of her show. It is aired in 144 countries.
