Filipino dad confesses to beating son, 7, to death

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine police say a man has confessed that he beat his 7-year-old son to death in anger because the boy was struggling with his English-language homework.

Police officer Benny Sabio says the jobless Ronald Dayap, 34, surrendered after his son died Wednesday in Cavite province’s Tanza township, south of Manila. Dayap faces life imprisonment if he is convicted in the killing.

Sabio said Friday that Dayap’s wife told police her husband allegedly became angry when their son could not answer simple questions in English while Dayap was helping him with his homework.

He said an autopsy showed the boy died from internal hemorrhage.

He quoted Dayap as saying he was sorry for beating the boy with a piece of wood.
