Games keeping ABC afloat this summer

NEW YORK — Dating games and “Wipeout” are keeping ABC afloat this summer.

The network can’t seem to scare up viewers for any scripted shows. Last week’s debut of the series about astronauts on a lengthy flight, “Defying Gravity,” had only 3.7 million viewers. And that was the biggest audience for any ABC scripted series.

“The Bachelorette” is a hit, though. Its 10 million viewers last week were second only to NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.

Following a pattern this summer, NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” was the week’s most popular series, and CBS was the most popular network.
