Another banner week for CBS

NEW YORK — The top of the Nielsen Co.’s list of the most popular television program is starting to look a little monotonous four weeks into the new TV season. That’s all right by CBS.

The network won again, this time by an average of nearly 3 million viewers in prime-time over second-place ABC. For the fourth straight week, ‘NCIS” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” are the two most-watched programs and new programs, respectively. One network hasn’t had that distinction since 1998.

Meanwhile, the Nielsen Company said that the pilot for ABC’s science fiction drama “Flash Forward” was seen by more people online than any other program on a broadcast Web site in September. ABC is also starting to see some moderate success for the freshman comedies “Modern Family” and “Cougar Town.”

CBS’ successes don’t extend to news, however. Once again, Katie Couric’s evening newscast was watched by fewer people than any network newscast.
