Gun residue on both women in Calif. murder suicide

SANTA ANA, Calif. — California authorities say they found gunshot powder residue on the hands of both women involved in an apparent murder suicide and aren’t able to determine who was the shooter.

Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said Wednesday that a residue test was inconclusive.

Authorities responding to a 911 call in an upscale community in San Clemente on Monday found the bodies of Elizabeth Fontaine, her mother Bonnie Hoult, and Fontaine’s two daughters, 4-year-old Catherine and 2-year-old Julia.

A judge had tentatively decided that morning to award temporary custody of the children to Fontaine’s sister-in-law after a bitter custody battle with the girls’ father.

Fontaine and the children had flown from their Houston home for a custody hearing.
