Brazil busts international prostitution ring

SAO PAULO — Brazilian police say they have busted a ring that allegedly sent some 200 women in the last year to the United States, Europe and elsewhere to work as prostitutes.

Leandro Daiello Coimbra of the federal police in Sao Paulo tells state-run Agencia Brasil that nine Brazilians and one American were arrested in Brazil on Friday.

Two more Americans were detained in the United States. Coimbra gave no further details on the arrests.

Coimbra says most of the women were recruited through the Internet or Brazilian brothels and then sent to Las Vegas, the Dominican Republic and France.

He says the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and Interpol helped dismantle the gang.
