Ringleader in tower terrorism plot to be sentenced

MIAMI — The ringleader of a group of men convicted of plotting to destroy Chicago’s Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices is scheduled to be sentenced.

A sentencing hearing for Narseal Batiste is expected to take place Friday in federal court. Four other men who were described as soldiers in the terrorism plot have already been sentenced.

Batiste faces a maximum of 70 years in prison.

The men were convicted in May of supporting terrorism, conspiring to wage war on the U.S. and other charges after two mistrials. Two other men were acquitted. The men insisted they plotted no terror attacks.
