Police: Driver drank before crash that hurt Davies
WASHINGTON — Federal court records show the driver in a car accident that seriously injured U.S. national soccer team forward Charlie Davies had consumed alcohol.
Davies broke several bones, including two in his right leg, and injured his bladder in the accident along George Washington Parkway on Oct. 13. Another passenger died.
In documents made public Thursday, a U.S. Park Police detective says the unnamed driver told police she drank alcohol before the crash and officers smelled alcohol on her breath.
The detective says authorities were unable to recover data from an air bag sensor and they were analyzing a GPS device.
After multiple operations, Davies began rehabilitation last month in Delaware.
