Officials: Former Knicks guard injured in fire

NEW YORK — Authorities say former New York Knicks point guard Dean Meminger was rescued from a fire that destroyed a row of New York City houses and left dozens homeless.

More than 200 firefighters battled the Sunday fire in the Bronx. Authorities say Meminger suffered smoke inhalation and was in stable condition Monday at Lincoln Hospital.

Meminger was known as “Dean The Dream” during the 1970s, when he played alongside Walt Frazier and Phil Jackson and helped the Knicks win the 1973 NBA championship.

Meminger left the NBA in 1977 and has since struggled with cocaine addiction and alcoholism.

Fire officials say they haven’t determined what caused the blaze.
