California- Google, the Internet search engine giant has its headquarters in Mountain View, Santa Clara County, California. There lies a complex of buildings, called Googleplex , just a few miles south of the San Francisco Bay.
Googleplex, which combines the words Google and complex is the campus of Google. The Googleplex is one of the company’s 23 U.S. and Canadian locations, 23 European locations, 14 Asia/Pacific locations, 5 Middle East locations, and 3 Latin American locations.
A Googolplex is an enormous number. While Googol is 10^100 — a one followed by 100 zeroes, Googolplex stands for 10 to the power of Googol.
A Brief History of Googleplex:
Google purchased the grounds of the main campus from a technology company called Silicon Graphics (SGI), which created the digital dinosaurs in the film “Jurassic Park.”
An architect named Clive Wilkinson of Clive Wilkinson Architects designed the workspaces in the Googleplex. At the Googleplex, Wilkinson concentrated on creating buildings that symbolized teamwork and creativity.
The office space and corporate campus is located within a larger 26-acre site that contains Charleston Park, a 5-acre public park; improved access to Permanente Creek; and public trails that connect the corporate site to Shoreline Park and the Bay Trail.
Googleplex also facilitates underground parking of nearly 2000 cars. The campus includes shallow pools, fountains, pathways, plazas, gym, free laundry rooms, two small swimming pools, a sand volleyball court, and eleven cafeterias of diverse selection.
The interior of the headquarters is furnished with items like shade lamps and giant rubber balls. The lobby contains a piano and a projection of current live Google search queries.
Google employs are now more than 19,000, working across the world, in its several branches. Among them, only 8000 get the opportunity to work out of Googleplex with lots of amenities and facilities.
The campus now has more than 2 million square feet of office space. The acquisition of a 42-acre campus adjacent to the Googleplex will add another 1 million square feet soon, according to source.
Lets watch how the Googleplex looks like.
