Freight train derails, dumps coal in Houston
HOUSTON — A freight train carrying coal has derailed in southwest Houston.
No injuries were reported. At least a dozen cars including some seen crumpled next to each other went off the tracks when the train derailed late Monday morning.
A Union Pacific spokeswoman did not immediately return a call seeking comment. The train was hauling coal and other materials, but assistant fire chief, Adrian Trevino, says there didn’t appear to be any leaks. Hazardous crews were dispatched to the area.
Some traffic along Highway 90 had to be detoured because coal was dumped on the roadway.
