Student stabbed at Fla. school; 1 in custody

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — School officials say a student is in custody after another student was stabbed to death at a South Florida high school.

Miami-Dade schools assistant superintendent Enid Weisman said a male student was killed at Coral Gables Senior High School on Tuesday morning. Weisman, who was at a state Board of Education meeting in Miami, says another student is in custody.

Miami-Dade police sent out a news release saying they were responding to the school’s address for a “death investigation.” The school was put on lockdown shortly after the incident.

Authorities have not released additional details.

Police spokeswoman Janette Frevola says it happened at Coral Gables Senior High School on Tuesday morning.

Miami-Dade police sent out a news release saying they were responding to the school’s address for a “death investigation.”

Miami-Dade schools superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho says there has been a stabbing at the school and someone has breached security. He was at the state Board of Education meeting in Miami but had to leave to attend to the incident.

Authorities have not released additional details.
