1 dead, 5 hurt in Coast Guard boat collision in CA
SAN DIEGO — Authorities say one person is dead and at least five are injured after a 33-foot Coast Guard patrol boat and a recreational boat collided in San Diego Bay.
The crash happened shortly before 6 p.m. during a Christmas boat parade, but neither boat was involved in the parade.
Coast Guard spokeswoman Jetta Disco says one person from the civilian boat was declared dead Sunday night at University of California, San Diego Hospital.
San Diego Fire Department spokesman Maurice Luque (LOO’-kay) says five others with serious injuries — all from the recreational boat — were taken to the same hospital.
Luque says all 13 people involved in the collision have been accounted for. Coast Guard officials say no one from the patrol boat was injured.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say a Coast Guard patrol boat has collided with a recreational boat while a Christmas light parade was going on in San Diego Bay, leaving at least six people including a child with serious injuries.
San Diego Fire Department spokesman Maurice Luque says all 13 people from the two boats in the Sunday night crash have been accounted for. He had no specific details on the injuries but said they were all considered major traumas. He said all six people who were hurt were taken to University of California, San Diego Hospital.
It was unclear whether the civilian boat was involved in the Christmas parade, but the 33-foot Coast Guard boat was on a routine patrol.
Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Josh Nelson says the crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. He says an 87-foot Coast Guard cutter and San Diego Harbor police are at the scene.
