Police: Bomb explodes in Pakistan’s northwest

PESHAWAR, Pakistan — Police say a bomb has exploded outside the press club in Pakistan’s main northwest city of Peshawar.

Police official Mohammad Khan says casualties are feared in the blast.

Peshawar has been a frequent target for bomb blasts in Pakistan over the past few months.

The attacks have been part of a surge in violence in the country attributed to militants retaliating for the army’s offensive against the Taliban in the South Waziristan tribal region.

The Peshawar Press Club is a well-known landmark in the city and many journalists congregate there.
