At least 14,000 lose power in Vt. due to storm
RUTLAND, Vt. — The winter storm that blasted the upper Midwest and New England has knocked out power to at least 14,000 customers in Vermont.
By late Wednesday afternoon, at least 9,200 customers were still without electricity.
The state’s largest utility, Central Vermont Public Service Corp., says Bennington, Rutland and Addison counties were hardest hit, with high winds knocking down trees and power lines.
Officials say crews are working to restore service but the wind is still creating new outages.
CVPS expects crews to make good progress Wednesday but says the work could take longer.
