Toppled Madagascar leader rejects new government
ANTANANARIVO, Madagascar — Madagascar’s ousted president and another former head of the Indian Ocean island have rejected the formation of a new government.
Andry Rajoelina, the military-backed politician who seized control of the country in March, unilaterally named a new Cabinet Tuesday.
An agreement that emerged from recent negotiations in Mozambique demands that all parties agree on appointments.
Marc Ravalomanana, who was forced into exile after the coup, says he “vigorously” opposes the “formation of a government chosen unilaterally.”
Meanwhile, Ravalomanana’s predecessor Didier Ratsiraka, told a private TV station that the new government was “illegal.”
