Robbery motive in deaths of 5 in rural Arkansas

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — Police say thieves shot to death five Arkansas family members and burned their bodies for a set of wheel rims and some flat-screen televisions.

Court documents show Samuel Conway and Jeremy Pickney, both 23, pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of capital murder, aggravated residential burglary and arson in the Nov. 12 attack in Pearcy.

Police fatally shot a third suspect, 22-year-old Marvin Lamar Stringer, in a raid Thursday.

The bodies of three members of the Gentry family, plus the son’s girlfriend, were found in a torched mobile home. The fifth body was discovered in a house nearby.

Officers say a confidential informant told them Pickney showed him a gun and offered the stolen goods for sale the day after the killings.
