Police: 3 people rob dying Pa. man in hospital
PHILADELPHIA — Police say three people stole a watch from a dying man in a Philadelphia hospital waiting room.
Police say Richard Alten and two others swiped the watch from the wrist of 63-year-old Joaquin Rivera on Saturday night.
Investigators say Rivera had arrived at the hospital complaining of chest pains and lost consciousness as he awaited treatment. Police say that’s when Alten and two others slipped off Rivera’s watch.
Police say a witness saw the crime and noticed Rivera had apparently stopped breathing. Hospital workers rushed him to the emergency room, and he was pronounced dead around midnight.
Alten was arrested in the hospital and remains in custody. Online court records searched Monday night did not show a name for a defense lawyer.
Police are seeking two accomplices.
