NJ dad arrives in Brazil, hoping to take son home
RIO DE JANEIRO — The New Jersey father in a protracted international custody battle says he has come to Brazil in hopes of finally taking his son home.
David Goldman has landed at Rio de Janeiro’s international airport after a court victory in the custody battle for his 9-year-old son.
He said on Thursday simply that “I hope I can go home with my son.”
The boy has been living in Brazil since his Brazilian mother took him the country in 2004.
Goldman thought they were leaving for a two-week vacation. Instead, the woman stayed, divorced Goldman, remarried and then died last year giving birth to a daughter.
On Wednesday, a federal court ruled Goldman’s son must be handed over to him within 48 hours at the American consulate in Rio.
