Maryland board approves more budget cuts

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A state panel has approved more than $361 million in spending reductions and reversions recommended by Gov. Martin O’Malley’s administration to help meet Maryland’s budget shortfall.

The cuts approved by the Board of Public Works on Wednesday were higher than the roughly $300 million in revisions that had been expected. They include the elimination of 112 state jobs, more than half of which are currently filled.

The newest cuts bring total general fund reductions and reversions since the fiscal year started in July to $1.1 billion. The panel had approved reductions of $736 million this summer.
