Man pushed by Calif. transit officer charged
OAKLAND, Calif. — A man who was pushed into a glass window by a San Francisco-area transit officer will not face felony charges in the incident that was caught on video.
Michael Gibson pleaded not guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor charges of disturbing the peace, public drunkenness and indecent exposure. He faced possible felony charges after police said he hit a Bay Area Rapid Transit officer and resisted arrest.
The incident Saturday was caught on cell phone video and posted online. It shows the unidentified officer pulling Gibson off a train in West Oakland and pushing the suspect toward the glass.
The glass broke, causing minor injuries to both men.
The video comes less than a year after footage of an officer fatally shooting an unarmed man incited riots in the region.
Gibson remains in custody on $5,000 bail.
