Guinea’s No. 2 to visit wounded leader in Morocco

DAKAR, Senegal — A bodyguard close to Guinea’s No. 2 leader and a retired diplomat say the country’s vice president plans to travel to Morocco to assess the health of the junta’s wounded president.

The two say Gen. Sekouba Konate is making the trip Tuesday to determine for himself if Capt. Moussa “Dadis” Camara will be able to return to Guinea.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because of concern for their security.

Over the weekend, Konate was filmed by state TV paying an official visit to Camara’s mother.

The real state of Camara’s health has remained a mystery ever since he was airlifted to a Moroccan military hospital on Dec. 4.

Camara had seized power in a coup nearly one year ago in the West African nation.
