O’Keeffe museum to honor Annie Leibovitz

SANTA FE, N.M. — The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum will honor photographer Annie Leibovitz as the 2010 recipient in its Women of Distinction series.

Leibovitz will be recognized March 6 at Santa Fe’s Lensic Performing Arts Center.

The Women of Distinction award was started in 2007. Previous honorees include Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, journalist Gail Sheehy and feminist author Gloria Steinem.

Museum officials said Leibovitz’s 40 years as a photojournalist have produced memorable and provocative works that include some of the best-known portraits of our time.

The Santa Fe museum has the largest single collection of O’Keeffe’s paintings, drawings and sculptures. The artist, who died in 1986, spent nearly four decades in northern New Mexico.
