Body of Chicago School Board leader found in river
CHICAGO — Family members say the body of the Chicago Board of Education president has been found in the Chicago River.
Chicago Public Schools issued a statement on behalf of Michael Scott’s family on Monday. It says Scott’s body was pulled from the river in downtown Chicago on Monday.
Officials say an autopsy is under way. Police say officers were called the city’s River North neighborhood at 3:15 a.m. where the found the body in the water.
The family says they appreciate the outpouring of support and arrangements for a public memorial service will be announced soon.
U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan and the Rev. Jesse Jackson are among the leaders expressing shock over Scott’s death.
