Bomb targets mosque in Pakistan, fatalities feared

ISLAMABAD — A bomb has exploded close to a mosque used by police in northwest Pakistan.

Police officer Nek Bahadur says at least 10 people have been wounded in the attack after Friday prayers in the Lower Dir region. That figure is expected to rise and include fatalities.

Islamist militants have staged a string of bloody attacks against Pakistani security forces in recent months.

Lower Dir is next to the Swat Valley, which Pakistani soldiers wrested from the Taliban earlier this year.
