Taiwanese drama big winner at Chinese Oscars
BANCIAO, Taiwan — The Taiwanese social drama “No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti” was the big winner at the Chinese-language equivalent of the Oscars, winning best picture and best director for Leon Dai.
In annual Golden Horse Awards ceremony in Taiwan late Saturday, Hong Kong’s Nick Cheung tied with China’s Huang Bo in the best actor category — the first tie in the event’s 46-year history. Cheung played a kidnapper in “The Beast Stalker.” Huang played a Chinese villager in “Cow” who protects a dairy cow from Japanese invaders in the 1940s.
Best actress went to China’s Li Bingbing, who played an intelligence official for the Japanese-allied government in 1940s China in the spy thriller, “The Message.”
The documentary “KJ: Music and Life” won best documentary, best film editing and best sound effects.
