Recalls: cookware, ski bindings
The following recalls have been announced:
About 300 stainless steel cookware sets, manufactured in India and distributed by Cost Plus Inc. of Oakland, Calif., because the handles can break and put users at risk of burns. No incidents have been reported. The cookware was sold at Cost Plus World Market stores around the country in August 2009. Details: by phone at 877-967-5362; by Web at www.worldmarket.com or www.cpsc.gov.
About 10,000 alpine ski bindings, made in Romania and imported by Salomon USA, of Ogden, Utah, because the product’s toe component could fail to fully secure the ski boot to the ski binding, causing the binding to release unexpectedly. This could cause the skier to lose control or fall and suffer injuries. There have been two reports of injuries, including a broken leg and a knee injury. The products were sold at authorized Salomon USA and Atomic USA ski dealers nationwide from September 2008 through last month. Details: by phone at 877-789-5111; by Web at www.atomicsnow.com or www.cpsc.gov.
Service Smoked Fish Corp. is recalling certain “use-by” dates and lot codes of Brooklyn’s Best brand Smoked Nova Salmon because the products could be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail and others with weakened immune systems. No illnesses have been reported, according to the Brooklyn, New York, company. The Smoked Nova Salmon products were distributed in the greater New York area, New Jersey, Connecticut, and in the areas of Baltimore; Los Angeles; and Portland, Ore. Consumers might have purchased the product from retail food stores.
Units with “use-by” dates of 12/03/09 through 12/19/09 are being recalled. The product was also air-packed in bulk boxes. Air-packed units with lot numbers 060 through 043 are being recalled. For more information, consumers can call 718-388-4067.
