Police: NY man tries robbery with paintball gun

YONKERS, N.Y. — Police said a man tried to rob a New York diner while wearing a paintball mask and carrying a paintball gun. Yonkers police Sgt. Patrick McCormack said the man was subdued at the Broadway Diner by four volunteer members of the city Office of Emergency Management.

McCormack said Tuesday that 31-year-old Carlos Abreu of Manhattan entered the diner late Monday night and demanded cash. The suspect wore a full-face paintball mask and carried what looked like a handgun.

McCormack said the OEM members confronted him, subdued him and called police.

Abreu was awaiting arraignment Tuesday on a charge of attempted robbery. No lawyer was listed for him at City Court.
