Neb. company says it’s recovered recalled beef
FAIRBURY, Neb. — A Nebraska company says it has recovered the 90 pounds of ground beef listed in a federal recall report because of possible E. coli contamination.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says Fairbury Steaks is recalling 10-pound packages of bulk fresh ground beef.
Dennis Brown, who says he owns Fairbury Steaks, said Wednesday that the beef has been recovered from the Ruskin restaurant that took delivery. He says none of the beef was consumed.
The USDA says the contamination was discovered through routine sampling, but Brown says the Fairbury company tested the same batch three times before delivery and each result was negative for E. coli 0157:H7.
That E. coli variant can cause stomach cramps and diarrhea and can be fatal in some cases.
