Ohio business group endorses tax plan
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A business lobbying group that helped create a package of tax changes says it supports a plan to delay income tax cuts to balance Ohio’s budget.
The Ohio Business Roundtable says that Gov. Ted Strickland’s suggestion to delay the final 4.2 percent income tax reduction to fill an $850 million budget hole is the least “onerous” proposal to fix the budget.
The group says it has waited to announce its support so that lawmakers can explore the full range of options.
Senate Republicans canceled a planned committee meeting to continue discussing whether they wanted to move forward with the tax proposal or suggest an alternative.
It was unclear whether a decision would be made before another planned committee meeting for Wednesday.
