Guinea offical: president won’t return this week
CONAKRY, Guinea — Guinea’s presidential spokesman says the wounded president who was airlifted to Morocco for emergency treatment after an assassination attempt will not return this week as the spokesman previously said.
Communications minister Idrissa Cherif says he does not know if “the boss will come back Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday — or when.”
Cherif had said Capt. Moussa “Dadis” Camara would return Wednesday. Now he says Camara’s return “is up to his doctors.”
Camara suffered a head wound when the chief of his presidential guard shot him Thursday. He was airlifted to Morocco and underwent surgery. His absence has opened up a dangerous power vacuum in the West African nation of 10 million where he seized power in a military coup a year ago.
