Only slight change to Fla. energy recommendation

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Public Service Commission staffers have slightly changed their recommended energy conservation goals, which the panel previously rejected as being too weak.

The goals differ for each electric utility, but overall they would require a 2.11 percent energy savings in 10 years, according to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy.

The group’s environmental director, John Wilson, said Tuesday that compares to 1.18 percent in the prior staff recommendation and 9 percent proposed by the environmental organization.

The commission is scheduled to consider the issue again Dec. 1. The goals would affect the state’s five investor-owned power companies and municipal utilities in Orlando and Jacksonville.
