Clearwire names Alvarion, ZTE as network infrastructure suppliers in launch of 4G WiMAX

Clearwire says Alvarion, ZTE to aid Spanish launch
KIRKLAND, Wash. — Clearwire Corp. said Tuesday it named telecoms equipment providers Alvarion Ltd. of Israel and ZTE Corp. of China as network infrastructure suppliers to support its launch of 4G WiMAX service in Spain next year.
Clearwire plans to sell its 4G WiMAX services under the CLEAR brand. The company says its 4G WiMAX service delivers broadband Internet connectivity similar to Wi-Fi, but with a service area reaching several miles.
Alvarion will support the launch in Malaga, while ZTE will support the launch in Seville.
Clearwire shares were flat at $7.88 in after-hours trading following the announcement while Alvarion shares rose 5 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $4.34.
