NEW DELHI - The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Monday said it was waiting for the viscera report to complete its inquiry into the death of 11-year-old Shano, who died after being allegedly given corporal punishment by her class teacher.

‘The vigilance department probing into the cause of death of Shano Khan, student of the MCD Girls Primary School in Bawana, will submit its final report to the Municipal Commissioner after receipt of the viscera report,’ the agency said here in a press statement.

‘The authority will take appropriate action after submission of the final report,’ the statement said.

Shano, a Class 2 student, slipped into a coma April 15, a day after her teacher Manju allegedly beat her for failing to recite the English alphabet and forced her to crouch down in the hot sun for more than an hour.

Shifted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital after her condition deteriorated, Shano died April 17.

The MCD said the Girls Primary School, where the incident took place, was functioning normally since April 23 - the day it reopened.

The police have already registered a case against the teacher for negligence but she has not been arrested yet. The autopsy report of the girl hinted that she could have died due to an epileptic attack.

Meanwhile, the accused teacher, Manju, has pleaded innocence stating that she never tortured the girl or in fact any other child.
