Tech Mahindra asks engineers to join BPO; freshers protest

After Wipro Technologies, another software outsourcing company, Tech Mahindra follows the footsteps of strange corporate about turn as the frshers of 2008 were handed over options of joining BPO for a meagre 6K/ month or sit at home for indefinite period. The 2008 B.Tech batch have already waited more than 1 year and now this mail is almost a nail on the coffin for the graduates. The protest came soon after as over 60 engineering graduates protested outside Tech Mahindra’s office in Salt Lake Sector V on Monday. When asked about the real demands of the students, one guy from the mob replied to our correspondent that
We have been trained as engineers, why should we work in the BPO division, that too, for just Rs 5,000-Rs 6,000 per month? Why aren’t we given any kind of assurance in all these months whereas other IT companies have atleast kept in touch with the freshers.
said a graduate of the BP Poddar Institute of Technology and Management.
As The Telegraph reports,
Over 5,000 students were recruited by Tech Mahindra from campuses across the country in 2007 and another 1,500 in 2008. Of them, 3,500 have not been absorbed yet.
When approached to Tech Mahindra about this agitation, Colonel L.K. Bhatia, the vice-president (resource management) of Tech Mahindra said
We did not anticipate the downturn when we hired the students more than a year ago. We reduced the number of recruits to 1,500 in 2009 as we had such a huge bench, The BPO offer is open-ended. Those who don’t want to join can always wait till some other opening comes up.
At this point, when the whole IT scenario all over the world has frozen up, the students have little to do but hope for the situation to get better. Meanwhile, if you think Tech Mahindra’s answer wasn’t justifiable enough, you can write to us and we will send them to the right place. Don’t you think there are better alternatives than sending engineers to BPOs that too after making them wait for 1 year. Talk about professional courtesy!

I have been recruited to this company through campus placements(2009 passed out). They have sent us a mail that they would be calling us after a delay but not mentioned any delay period.They should inform us directly that they cannot call us at all. Why they want us keep waiting? I would have gone for higher studies in 2009 itself instead of waiting for joining dates.Now ill have to wait for next academic year for studies.All my friends who got placed to other companies are already working. |

last one year Tech Mahindra has given false promises that all campus recruits will be brought on board very soon.They even now continue to give such promises.Who has given them the right to ruin lives of thousands of freshers .All top executives should take moral responsibility of this inhuman act and their lack of vision and immediately stepdown.There is no doubt that Tech Mahindra has the worst HR Dept. |

more than 10k people r waiting for joining from techM and mahindra satyam..These people have no ethics at all. They don’t even feel the necessity to communicate with people who r waiting 4 joining. They don’t even bother to answer the mails of fresher.they show them the dreams,keep them in dark and in the end ruin their carrer.shame shame shame…… |

If any of the top officials are looking at this, all I have to say them is that “U don’t deserve to be what u are. If u could not anticipate the situation,why the hell are u employed? Quit your posts and do something else. U can play with your company’s revenue if u want, not with careers of thousands of people”. |

Tech Mahindra officials who have continually painted rosy pictures of their business flourishing during the last year all seem to be blatant lies…irony is that the company was given the title of “best employer”..is jeopardizing the careers of thousands of freshers is what being “best employer ” is all about?? |
