Afghan tribal leader sentenced to life in US prison for smuggling heroin

NEW YORK — A once-powerful Afghan tribal leader was sentenced to life in prison Thursday by a judge who said his heroin smuggling overshadowed his claims that he tried to help the U.S. rebuild his country.
