Maine town wins fight against US Postal Service to save lone curbside mailbox from removal

OTISFIELD, Maine — The U.S. Postal Service has decided to keep a rural Maine town’s lone mailbox after a protest that included a phone blitz, pressure from elected officials and a blockade to prevent the box’s removal.

OTISFIELD, Maine — The folks of Otisfield are so fond of their lone public mailbox that they blocked it with a snowplow and a backhoe to prevent the Postal Service from taking it away in the gloom of night. Town officials also threatened to chain themselves to the blue box if necessary.

OTISFIELD, Maine — For the 17th year in a row, Israeli and Palestinian teenagers have come together at a summer camp in the western Maine woods to make new friendships, understand each other’s dreams and fears, and possibly lay a groundwork for peace in the Middle East.
