Production increases at carmakers nationwide
Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it is raising production of its Focus small car and Escape crossover to meet higher demand. Here is how some other automakers are cautiously increasing production.
CHRYSLER: The Auburn Hills, Mich.-based company is adding overtime at most of its plants to respond to expected demand for its 2010 models.
TOYOTA: The world’s largest automaker said last month it began increasing production of “core” models such as the Corolla sedan, the RAV4 crossover and the Tacoma truck. The Corolla is the top-selling Cash for Clunkers seller. All three vehicles are built at facilities in North America.
HONDA: Honda is adding Saturday overtime shifts over the next few months at its auto assembly plants in Ohio, Alabama and Indiana. The Civic sedan is the No. 3 Clunkers seller and is built in Greensburg, Ind., and Alliston, Ontario.
HYUNDAI: The Korean automaker is recalling more than 3,000 employees at its plant in central Alabama to meet growing demand for its vehicles. The plant builds the Sonata sedan and the Santa Fe SUV.
