Product Recalls: single meter sockets

The following recall has been announced:

— About 1,400 single meter sockets, made in the U.S. by Milbank Manufacturing Co. of Kansas City, Mo., because a short might occur when the product is in use. If the defect exists, all metal parts of the meter could create a shock, or burns could occur if the cover is off and the meter socket is energized. Three incidents of the unit shorting out have been reported. No injuries were reported. The recall affects model numbers U9090-O and R9090-O. The recalled products, which are used for underground utility meter installations, were sold at electrical supply distributors in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Massachusetts and at local hardware stores in New York from May through August 2009.
