LONDON - Get ready to welcome ‘Winnie the Pooh’ on your Nintendo DS, for Egmont-the publisher of the cuddlesome bear’s stories-has struck a deal with EA Games to create ebooks for children.

Rob McMenemy, the Danish publisher’s managing director has said that while there will “always be a market for traditional books and magazines”, the children’s publishing industry needs to better embrace digital methods.

The group has announced the deal with Nintendo, which reportedly also involves Penguin.

“The Nintendo DS is extremely popular with children, so it made sense to use it as a way of encouraging them to read,” the Telegraph quoted McMenemy as saying.

The ebooks, initially pitched at seven to 11 year-olds, will go by the name of Flips and feature books such as the Enid Blyton series and a book for young boys called Too Ghoul for School.

“This is not reading in a linear fashion. There is an interactive element,” he said. (ANI)

Just to clarify here - the new Winnie-the-Pooh book isn’t being released on Nintendo DS, it will be print only, for now at least. However some Enid Blyton titles will be available.
