Will go ahead with IPI project even if India unwilling: Zardari

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan will go ahead with the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline project even without India’s participation, President Asif Ali Zardari said Monday, adding he will discuss the issue during his visit to Tehran beginning Tuesday.
Zardari leaves for Tehran to represent Pakistan at the summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation being held in Iranian capital Wednesday, Geo TV reports.
Speaking to an Iranian news agency, Zardari said his government is committed to the IPI project and he had discussed the issue last year when he met with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
On India’s participation in the project, he said: ‘We have proposed that even if the third party (India) does not come in to this relationship, we should do it on our own. Pakistan and Iran should do this project on their own,’ he stressed.
