KOLKATA - A senior West Bengal health department official died in an accident Saturday morning while travelling from Gangotri to Gomukh in Uttarakhand, a fellow tourist said.

“(State health department assistant director and swine flu nodal officer) Tapas Sen died in an accident while travelling from Gangotri to Gomukh,” Sandip Biswas, who was travelling along with him, told a Bengali television channel from Gomukh by telephone.

“Dr. Sen was sitting on a pony. He fell into a stream as the pony suddenly slipped into a gorge,” he said.

Biswas said Sen’s body was recovered after police and rescue teams carried out a search operation.
