NEW DELHI - Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, undergoing treatment for chest infection at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is making steady progress, doctors attending him said Thursday.

‘Vajpayee continues to be in the ICU (intensive care unit) on a ventilator. His condition is stable and he is making steady progress,’ said medical superintendent D.K. Sharma.

The 84-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party leader was admitted to the hospital after he complained of difficulty in breathing and fever Feb 3. He was put on mechanical ventilation last Friday.

The doctors had Wednesday said that based on Vajpayee’s condition they will take a decision in the next three or four days on whether to discharge him from hospital.
