LUCKNOW - The Uttar Pradesh cabinet Thursday abolished trade tax checkposts across the state “to check harassment of traders and businessment”, Chief Minister Mayawati announced.

“We have decided to scrap the checkposts in the interest of traders,” Mayawati said at a press conference here.

The total number of checkposts across the state had earlier been reduced from 83 to 37.

“At today’s cabinet meeting, we decided to abolish the remaining 37 trade tax checkposts as there were complaints that traders were being harrassed,” said Mayawati.
