UTC chairman gives countess $6.5M more for divorce
HARTFORD, Conn. — The chairman of United Technologies has ended his marriage — and a public divorce trial — by giving his Swedish countess ex-wife an additional $6.5 million.
George David and Marie Douglas-David signed the agreement Friday in Hartford Family Court. The payout draws an end to a rancorous trial that featured days of testimony about lavish gifts and detailed accusations of infidelity during the jet-setting couple’s marriage.
They married in 2002 and signed a postnuptial agreement in 2005. That agreement awarded the 37-year-old Douglas-David $43 million if the couple split. But she later asked for about $99 million from her 67-year-old ex-husband’s $329 million fortune.
The settlement gives the countess a $42.5 million portfolio plus $6.5 million and some personal property.
