Evaluation ordered for man accused of Obama threat
SALT LAKE CITY — A psychiatric evaluation has been ordered for a man accused of telling bank employees in Utah he was “on a mission to kill” President Barack Obama.
Federal Magistrate Robert T. Braithwaite ordered the evaluation Wednesday to determine whether Daniel James Murray is competent to face a felony charge of making threats against the president.
Murray’s public defender says the 36-year-old Murray maintains he is competent but wouldn’t fight prosecutors’ request. Murray was arrested June 5 outside a casino in Nevada.
Authorities said he threatened the president nine days earlier while withdrawing money from a bank in St. George, Utah.
