Iraq: US soldier dies of non-combat related injury
BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has died from a non-combat related injury north of Baghdad.
A statement says the Multi-National Division — North soldier died Sunday in Tikrit. That’s the hometown of ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and the site of a major U.S. base.
The statement gave no further details, saying the incident is under investigation.
There have been 23 American troop deaths this month. That makes it the deadliest since September, when 25 were killed.
At least 4,305 members of the U.S. military have died in Iraq since the war began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
