US soldier dies in mortar attack in Iraq
BAGHDAD — The U.S. military says an American soldier has been killed in a mortar attack at Baghdad’s Camp Liberty.
The military says the Multi-National Corps-Iraq soldier was killed Thursday at the base on the western edge of the Iraqi capital.
The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The military said in a statement released Friday that the incident is under investigation.
The death raises to at least 4,348 members of the U.S. military who have died in the Iraq war since it began in March 2003. That’s according to an Associated Press count.
