US dollar higher, gold lower in European morning trading

US dollar rises in European trading
LONDON — The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Monday morning. Gold fell.
The euro traded at US$1.3869, down from US$1.3963 late Friday in New York.
Other dollar rates:
—98.49 Japanese yen, up from 98.36
—1.0944 Swiss francs, up from 1.0862
—1.1235 Canadian dollars, up from 1.1185
The British pound was quoted at US$1.5840, down from $1.5978.
Gold traded in London at US$946.50 per troy ounce, down from US$962.00 late Friday.
