U-M, Amazon offer 400K titles with print-on-demand
DETROIT — The University of Michigan says it’s teaming up with Amazon.com to offer reprints of 400,000 rare and out-of-print books from its library that no longer are under copyright.
The Ann Arbor school announced the arrangement Tuesday. It says the books are in more than 200 languages from Acoli to Zulu and include a 1898 book on nursing by Florence Nightingale.
The university says the books will sell at prices from $10 to $45.
It says Seattle-based Amazon.com Inc.’s BookSurge unit will print the books on demand in soft cover editions.
University of Michigan libraries Dean Paul Courant says the arrangement will extend access to books that haven’t been widely available for a century or more.

Well as they say, “Where you will be in 20 years depends on who you meet and what books you read.” I think it is wonderful that they are doing this! |
